After the Taliban denied girls high school education, the World Bank froze $600 million in Afghan projects

The World Bank has halted programmes in Afghanistan after the Taliban barred girls from attending high school. The World Bank has put $600 million in projects on hold.

These were initiatives to be carried out by UN organisations with funding granted by the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund. The ideas were to be implemented in education, agriculture, and health care.

However, following the Taliban's decision to deny girls high school education, the bank declared that the projects' implementation would be halted.

A day after the Taliban proclaimed that females would not be admitted to courses above the sixth grade, the government announced that girls would not be admitted from class 6 onwards.
