Israeli cop, Bnei Brak residents, and two Ukrainians were killed in a terrorist shooting attack
Authorities reported that two Israeli citizens, two Ukrainian nationals, and a police officer were murdered in a shooting incident in the Tel Aviv district of Bnei Brak on Tuesday.
On Wednesday morning, Avishai Yehezkel, a 29-year-old father of one, was put to rest in Bnei Brak. The funeral drew over 300 individuals.
Ovadia, his brother, told Kol Chai radio that "he was a special person. He defended his baby with his own body."
Yaakov Shalom was a 36-year-old father of five children. His funeral is being conducted in Petah Tikva, Israel's capital.
The incident also claimed the lives of two Ukrainian immigrants, ages 24 and 33, according to the Ukrainian embassy in Israel.
Their identities have yet to be revealed. They were both in Israel for several years, according to Israeli officials.
Police shot and killed the attacker, a Palestinian of the West Bank settlement of Ya'bad.
Amir Khoury, a 32-year-old cop who was dispatched to the scene of the incident, was slain. Khoury's burial will be place in his hometown of Nof Hagalil, in northern Israel, on Thursday.
Khoury's family was spoken to by Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, who informed them that their son had "saved the lives of many civilians," and described him as a "hero."
In the third deadly shooting in Israel in as many days, a Palestinian gunman murdered five people in a Tel Aviv suburb on Tuesday, forcing police to raise the highest level of alert since the conflict with Gaza last year.
