Netflix purchases Boss Fight Entertainment in order to grow its gaming genre.

Netflix has announced the acquisition of Boss Fight Entertainment, its third game studio, as part of its gaming ambitions. Netflix debuted mobile games for its global users four months ago and has been steadily extending its games inventory while also strengthening its in-house creative development team.

Night School Studio and Next Games, a mobile games company located in Finland, are two of Netflix's earlier game studio purchases.

Netflix said earlier this month that it was acquiring Finland's Next Games, a mobile game developer, for a total of €65 million ($72 million). The free-to-play mobile games developer has previously created titles based on some of Netflix's most popular shows, including "Stranger Things" and "The Walking Dead." The transaction is scheduled to finalise in the second quarter of 2022.

Netflix purchased Night School Studio, an independent game developer known for narrative-driven titles such as "Oxenfree," in September of last year. The deal's financial specifics were not disclosed. Night School executives stated that production on Oxenfree II and other Night School titles will continue.

The purchases are part of Netflix's larger effort to expand its gaming content to match its film collection.

"We’re still in the early days of building great game experiences as part of your Netflix membership" said Amir Rahimi, Netflix's vice president of game studios, in a statement.
