In February, WhatsApp banned 14.26 lakh Indian accounts.

According to a monthly report provided by the messaging network, WhatsApp terminated 14.26 lakh Indian accounts in February 2022 based on complaints received from users via the grievances channel and its own methodology to prevent and identify infractions.

Between February 1 and February 28, 335 grievance complaints were received, and 21 instances were "actioned."

Out of the total number of reports received, 194 were for ban appeals, while the rest were about account help, product support, and safety, among other things.

"We respond to all grievances received except in cases where a grievance is deemed to be a duplicate of a previous ticket. An account is ‘actioned’ when an account is banned or a previously banned account is restored, as a result of a complaint" according to the report released on Friday.

According to the study, WhatsApp blocked 14.26 lakh Indian accounts in February.

The +91 phone number is used to identify an Indian account.

"This user-safety report contains details of the user complaints received and the corresponding action taken by WhatsApp as well as WhatsApp’s own preventive actions to combat abuse on our platform. As captured in the latest monthly report, WhatsApp banned over 1.4 million accounts in the month of February," a WhatsApp spokesman stated in an e-mail.

WhatsApp has constantly invested in Artificial Intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies, data scientists and experts, and processes over the years to keep users secure on the network, according to the spokesman.
